AA batteries are probably the easiest to purchase just about anywhere, though I overpacked battery-wise on my last trip. Managed to use only my rechargeable AA&#039;s...the pack of 12 regular AA&#039;s I packed ended up being gifted to another backpacker.

For only $10, a surge protector is a cheap insurance policy for expensive gadgets. :-)</description>

I try to make sure all my stuff uses the same battery type, like AA, that way I can interchange and buy them
on the road.  

Also, I would highly recommend picking up a small 1-outlet surge protector (APC makes a great one for $10) and use
it between the wall and your laptop / whatever you are charging.  The power in some places (especially islands) is
&quot;unclean&quot; and the spikes can do damage to your toys that may take months to fail.
