I especially agree with your points about not being lonesome. I set off for a many-month solo travel adventure, and at the end I could probably count on my fingers the number of days I was truly alone. And you know what? Even though I met some amazing people, it’s those few totally alone days that burn brightest in my memories.

Great advice and great article.

I have female friends that used the fake wedding band in Egypt to take a lot of pressure off – it was mostly respected.

What I love most about solo travel is the opportunity to meet people, which we often forgo when we travel with companions. When I travel alone, and I do, I reach out to those around me. When I travel with friends, I tend to shut the world out more and focus on my travel buddies… a good reason to travel solo!
